This morning I got a call from a friend in the church telling me about an opportunity to help a family in need. The family, whose wife has bone cancer and the husband has been in the hospital for the past 4 months, needed help around the home both inside and out. Being unable to personally help, I began to reach out to our Young Adult Church for help. But the reach out for help is not why I am writing.
I also have a close friend that has brain cancer and was told he only had 2 months to live. That was 5 months ago and he is still living! But this is not why I am writing either.
I am writing because I was reminded of what my friend with brain cancer told me. He said that even though he has cancer and God’s will is for him to be healed, his life is not his own and whatever way God sees fit to bring Himself Glory through my friends life, he is open to it, even if it is through the cancer. This brought a practical understanding to Romans 14:8. “If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”
Are you living a life that is not your own? Can you say that your life is completely handed over to God and He can do with it in whatever way He pleases? That you trust Him fully?
I will be honest I am still on the journey in this life to be able to say that I trust God fully, that my life is not my own and God has full control. Yet I continue to pursue that truth.
Pursue with me!
